Program Benefits & Eligibility


The LiFT Scholars Program is committed to offering students:

  • Peer and faculty mentoring
  • Cross-institutional networking opportunities
  • Career and leadership development
  • Awareness of undergraduate research opportunities
  • A sense of community with informatics and IT student peers
  • Industry-based experiences (e.g., industry field trips, opportunities to network with IT professionals)

Students can pursue their college degrees in information technology areas (e.g., cyber security, software development, informatics, computer science) from the School of Information Technology at Ivy Tech Community College or in informatics from the IU School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI.

LiFT Scholars from Ivy Tech Central Indiana who are pursuing an associate degree in informatics will have the opportunity to transfer to the School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI to pursue the B.S. in Informatics upon meeting admissions requirements.

  • All LiFT Scholars are eligible to receive an additional unmet-need scholarship award up to a maximum of $7,500 at IUPUI and $2,500 at Ivy Tech.
  • This unmet-need scholarship is renewable for students who meet program requirements.

Program Eligibility

In order to apply, each student must:

  • Be current graduating high school seniors when they apply for IUPUI. Ivy Tech LiFT applicants can be current graduating high school seniors, new Ivy Tech students, or continuing Ivy Tech students who have at least two semesters (fall/spring or spring/fall) remaining at the time of application and have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Must be a first-time undergraduate student accepted at the School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI or Ivy Tech Community College Central Indiana.
  • Plan to be enrolled full-time (a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester) in college-level coursework.
  • Must pursue the bachelor’s degree in Informatics at the School of Informatics and Computing at IUPUI or one of the following associate’s degrees in the School of Information Technology at Ivy Tech: network infrastructure, server administration, software development, computer science, database management and administration, cyber security/information assurance, information technology support, or informatics. NOTE: Visual communications is not a LiFT-eligible program.
  • Plan to pursue a career in informatics.
  • Be a U.S citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  • File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Demonstrate financial need as defined for undergraduate students by the U.S. Department of Education’s criteria for need-based federal financial aid.

Students who enter the Online Bachelor of Science in Informatics degree through the IU Office of Online Education are not eligible to apply for the LiFT Scholars Program at IUPUI.

Students pursuing the associate’s degree in informatics from other Ivy Tech campuses outside of the Central Indiana region (e.g., Columbus, Anderson, Lafayette) are also eligible.
